The role of cisapride in the treatment of pediatric gastroesophageal reflux a medical position statement by the European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.Vandenplass Y, Belli D, Benatar A et al. Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition 28: 518-528 1999 Review: Efficacy data suggest that it (cisapride) is the most effective commercially available pro kinetic drug. The authors reviewed all reported adverse events associated with cisapride. The report states that cisapride should be administered to patients in whom the use of a pro kinetic agent is justified according to current medical knowledge. The recommended dose is 0.8 mg/kg/day and if this is done no special safety procedures regarding cardiac adverse events are recommended. In certain groups of patients (those on the medications mentioned, those with history of cardiac arrhythmias or those with electrolyte disturbances) precautions should be taken.
