The use of cisapride a medical position statement of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition*

Shulman R, Boyle J, Colletti R et al. Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition 28: 529-533 1999

Review: * This statement reflects the societal views. This statement is the work of a committee of the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition which was convened in response to the change in labeling of cisapride by Janssen in 1998. The committee determined that cisapride has a place in pediatric therapeutics ...in children with gastroesophageal reflux. There are limited data supporting its use in other conditions. The report ends with guidelines among which are the following: ...avoid concomitant administration of contraindicated drugs, particularly macrolide antibiotics and azole antifungals, ...the dose be limited to 0.8 mg/kg/day. The report does not recommend that every patient on cisapride should receive an ECG.
